Personalised zones from your zone 2 and lactate threshold can guide training more individually than generic heart-rate percentages.
Personalised training zones built from zone 2 and lactate threshold can provide more individual guidance than generic percentages of heart rate.
In a small 12-week randomised study, exercise prescribed from ventilatory thresholds was compared with training based on percentages of heart-rate reserve. All 12 participants in the threshold-based group met the study’s VO2max responder criterion, compared with 5 of 12 in the heart-rate-reserve group.
This is encouraging preliminary evidence from a small sample, not a guarantee of individual results.
